National Epidemiological and Family Health Survey of Women and Children
Start Date spring 2001
Background and Purpose
The purpose of including a nutrition component in this survey was to assess the prevalence of protein-energy malnutrition and anemia in women and children. Information was also collected on the breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices of mothers with young children.
Progress
- IMMPaCt provided technical assistance in planning the survey and training the nutrition field staff.
- IMMPaCt staff carried out analysis and write up of the nutritional components of the survey.
- Data has been collected and preliminary analysis is complete. The
preliminary report was disseminated in the fall of 2001. Results show
that
- 29.2% of children 3� months old are growth stunted.
- 29.9% of children 12� months old have anemia.
- Among non-pregnant women 15� years, 14.7% have anemia.
