Old Logging Train

The BLM cooperates with several agencies in the protection of Yaquina Head. As the upland manager of the site the BLM has primary jurisdiction for the site. The plants and animals in the intertidal area are managed by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. The Oregon Department of State Lands has responsibility for the land management to the high tide line. The U. S. Coast Guard has responsibility for the maintenance and operation of the lens and lantern at the top of the lighthouse as well as the communications facility on Communications Hill. The offshore islands are home to the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge which is managed by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service. We also work closely with the Friends of Yaquina Lighthouses whose mission is to aid in the restoration and preservation of the Yaquina Bay and Yaquina Head lighthouses and surrounding areas, and to interpret their natural and cultural histories.
