Atlanta is the capital and most populous city in Georgia, and the ninth most populous metropolitan area in the United States. Atlanta sits in both Fulton County and DeKalb County – which is where most of the CDC facilities reside.
As of July 2006, Atlanta had a metropolitan population of 5,138,223. The mayor of Atlanta is Shirley Franklin. Nicknames for Atlanta include “Hotlanta” and “the ATL.”

Plenty of professional sports events occur in Atlanta during the summer. Some events include Atlanta Braves baseball, Georgia Force arena football (season runs March-mid June) and the Atlanta Silverbacks soccer (season runs April-September)
