EES Student Handbook

Welcome to EES Division!

Dear EES Student,

We are pleased to have you working with us. Students are an important part of what we do, and we hope that you have an enjoyable, educational, fulfilling, productive, and safe experience working at LANL. The EES Division is involved in a wide variety of programs related to the earth and environmental sciences including geology, hydrology, geochemistry, geophysics, geoengineering, geoanalysis, geotechnical engineering, atmospheric and climate sciences, risk analysis, and environmental sciences.

There are potentially hazardous operations in our work environment. It is our responsibility and commitment to ensure that all work is performed safely. We expect you to follow the rules and procedures in maintaining a safe work environment. If, at any time, you don't feel comfortable with what you are doing or if you have any questions, ask for help from your mentor, supervisor, or coworkers, the Student Liaisons, Group Leader, or Division Safety Officer. Your safety, the safety of others, and the success of your work experience depend on it.

The EES Division Student Handbook has been developed to help you get settled in your new job, and to help you find useful and interesting information about student issues, LANL, and Northern New Mexico. Please read the EES Division Student and Mentor Guidelines to help get you acquainted with some of your responsibilities, as well as the responsibilities of your mentor, Group and Team Leaders, and the Student Liaisons.

Sebastien Dartevelle and Aviva Sussman (contacts - below left) are the EES Division Student Liaisons and are available to help you have the best experience possible working at the LANL.Feel free to contact either of the Student Liaisons if you are having problems with your job and cannot resolve these problems with your mentor, or if you have any questions about LANL or living in Northern New Mexico.During the summer months, there will be a wide variety of student and lab-wide events that you can attend. The Student Liaisons and LANL Student Programs will keep you informed and updated on such events and other relevant news.

Again, we look forward to your arrival at the Laboratory and becoming a part of our division. We want your time here as a student to be a time of professional growth for you, as well as an enjoyable and safe experience.

Welcome!
