FY 2005 President's Budget: |

On February 2nd,
President Bush submitted to Congress his Fiscal Year 2005 budget request for
all federal agencies – the “FY 2005 President’s Budget.”
Included in this request is a proposed FY 2005 budget for the National Institutes of Health of
$28.8 billion.

NIH categorizes its spending in a variety of manners to satisfy
diverse reporting requirements.
Of course, we track spending for specific Diseases
(Alzheimer’s Disease, Breast Cancer, etc.), but we also track our
expenditures for various conditions (Infertility, Obesity, etc.) and
specific areas of research (Genetics, Substance Abuse, etc.).
We annually update both our actual and projected expenditures
(based on the current year funding level and the President’s
Budget funding level). See
the link below for our latest estimates.
Note
that this table includes estimates for research in many
diseases/conditions/research areas which are also included under
other disease/conditions/research areas, because the research
contributes to multiple fields of research. The table is
therefore not additive.
