::. FDA Advisory on Eating Bagged Spinach

In light of the recent FDA advisory on eating bagged spinach, (http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/NEWS/2006/NEW01450.html), the Community Health Branch, Division of Occupational Health and Safety, Office of Research Services, reminds consumers that all fresh produce, even bagged and pre-washed, should be thoroughly washed before eating. Other steps that can be taken to reduce the possibility of food borne illness are: washing hands thoroughly with soap before, during and after food preparation; keep food refrigerated; discard old foods; and check food temperatures when cooking. For more information, please contact the Community Health Branch, Food Safety Program Manager at (301) 496-4294.
