Description

The Clinical Center's Hospital Information System (MIS) has been in place for 25 years. The longevity of this system is evidence of how well it has served its role, but advances in information technology and changes in the Clinical Center's model of care have made this role seem increasingly limiting. The Clinical Center needs a new system, to be in place when we move to the new CRC, that will support the direct collection of management data, protocol-centered care, and the collection of both numeric and textual data in a way that will improve both clinical care and research.

Accomplishments-to-Date

  • Several vendors have presented day-long educational sessions to the CC staff
  • Statement of work has been issued under the CIO-SP vehicle for a systems selection consultant

FY 2000 Goals

  • Select consultant to aid in the evaluation and selection of a new Hospital Information System
  • Convene a selection committee with representation from the CC departments and the Institutes
  • Begin the evaluation of available systems
