Clinton State Park

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks leases 1,455 acres for public park and recreation purposes from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Clinton State Park, on the north shore of Clinton Lake is managed by KDWP. (Phone: 785-842-8562)

Clinton Wildlife Area and Deister Farm

Approximately 9,190 acres of land are leased to Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) for wildlife management purposes. These lands are available for low-density recreational activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking and sightseeing.A portion of the wildlife area includes the wildlife refuge, located on the Wakarusa arm of the lake. The refuge consists of approximately 500 acres of timber/grassland and 500 acres of water. It is managed as a resting and feeding area for waterfowl. The refuge is closed yearly to all visitors from October 15 to January 15.Also included in the wildlife area is the Coblentz marsh complex. The marsh consists of four cells, each covering approximately 25 surface acres to an average depth of two feet. The marsh functions primarily as a recreational and wildlife habitat resource.

The Deister Farmstead, constructed in the 1870’s, is situated on the upper portion of Deer Creek just west of Stull on KDWP licensed land. The old farmstead contains three original stone buildings and has been designated as a significant historical site. The site currently serves as a private residence for the Wildlife Area manager and headquarters for the operation of state wildlife management lands at the project. (Phone: 785-887-6882)

YSI/Eagle Bend Golf Course/South Outlet Park

The City of Lawrence leases the land below Clinton Lake dam for recreational purposes. They have recently installed the 18-hole Eagle Bend Golf Course. The city of Lawrence also operates an area known as YSI in cooperation with YSI (Youth Sports Incorporated), which contains soccer and softball fields and the South Outlet Park, a day use area that contains two picnic shelters, a playground and a softball field.
