Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps

Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) Pacific is proud to include the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) curriculum at all DoDDS Pacific high schools. JROTC makes many opportunities available to our students.  Each year our DoDDS Pacific high schools have many JROTC cadets who earn military academy appointments and college or university Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (ROTC) scholarships, and many cadets elect to go directly into the military with skills that enable them to earn rank much faster than other recruit.

The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) is a program authorized by the National Defense Act of 1916, and Public Law 88-647, 13 October 1964.  The original concept of the program was to offer a non-compulsory cadet corps aimed toward making better citizens.  Each branch of the military service has established a JROTC program representing the mission, history, traditions, and leadership doctrine of the service to educate high school students.  A compilation of JROTC program objectives include the following:

 • Develop informed and responsible citizens
 • Develop self-control and restraint
 • Promote patriotism
 • Develop leadership
 • Promote civic duties
 • Develop strength and character
 • Promote incentive to live a healthy drug free life
 • Develop respect and understanding for constituted authority
 • Provide information on military services

The content of the JROTC curriculum is related to the mission of each branch of the service; however, all of the programs strive for the program objectives above.
