Senator Carper visited Frankford Elementary school where he got to see computers that were donated from the United States Senate's Computers for Schools Program. Students Jennifer Castro and Raheem Dixon (facing the senator) read letters to the senator about how the computers have impacted their lives.

Senator Carper visited Indian River Eagle Company. IREC is a unique program that provides job training opportunities for 14 special needs students from Howard T. Ennis School. The senator found his way into the kitchen to see what kinds of cookies Codey Feathers (right) and Travis Moore were making.

Senator Carper listens to Barry Weiss, Del Tech's Department Chair of Airframe Mechanics Program, explain how Del Tech will use the $856,000 that Senator Carper helped secure to train students in an FAA certified program to prepare them to enter the aviation maintenance workforce. The announcement was held at Dassault Falcon.

Senator Carper, a long-time member of the YMCA, stopped by the new YMCA in Glasgow. These two children took time out of a game of basketball to greet him.

Senator Carper was honored to participate in the naming of nine Blueprint Communities in Delaware. These leadership teams are being given a unique opportunity to reinvent their communities by participating in a community development training valued at $25,000 per community. Senator Carper addresses the crowd as John Price, President and CEO of Federal Home Loan Bank Pittsburgh looks on. The program is sponsored by FHLB Pittsburgh and the University of Delaware's Center for community Research and Service.

Senator Carper was pleased that the Dover Community Partnership, which he helped create, was among those groups honored by Blueprint Communities.

March 8, 2008 — Dover
Dozens of teams competed at the University of Delaware's Carpenter Sports Center in the three-day CAI/Easter Seals Volleyball Challenge, which began in 1981 to raise money for the nonprofit group's services for all ages of Delawareans with disabilities. State Democrats and Republicans started good-natured, hard-fought matches three years ago, with the Democrats winning the first year and Republicans winning the following year. The 2008 match started with the Democrats jumping out to a one game lead. Unfortunately, the Republicans came back to win the final two games. But in the words of Senator Carper, there were no losers because the event raised about $300,000 for the charity.

Senator Carper learned about Christiana Care's new CyberKnife from doctors and other staff. This noninvasive technology can accurately target cancer without pain or anesthesia, leading to a quicker recovery time for patients.
