Helping seniors live independently has
been a priority of mine since my days in the Wisconsin State
Senate. That is why I continue to protect home health care
options. Our home health care agencies are facing great challenges
as they struggle to continue to provide care to some of our
most vulnerable citizens.
In December 2005, I joined a successful bipartisan effort
to make sure that the final version of the Deficit Reduction
Act of 2005 did not include any reductions to the Medicare
home health benefit.
I have also taken the lead, along with Senator Collins (R-ME),
in calling on the Senate Finance Committee to maintain funding
for home health care in fiscal year 2007. Medicare beneficiaries
should have the option of staying in the comfort of their
homes and communities for health care. It is the compassionate
thing to do, and it also makes fiscal sense. If you would
like to read the home health letter that Senator Collins and
I sent to the Finance Committee with 76 other Senators, please

I will continue to work to make sure that home health care
remains a viable option for those who need it.
