Academy NominationsAdmission to an academy requires meeting certain qualifications and obtaining a nomination from a nomination authority such as a Congressional Member, a Federal Senator, the President (for sons and daughters of career or retired military parents), the Vice President, and the Secretaries of the Armed Forces (for Active Duty Enlisted Members). A nomination is a recommendation to an academy from one of the above nominating authorities. A nomination is required to be considered for academy admission, and please note that an appointment is an official offer of admission by a service academy. QUALIFICATIONS
AND LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ACADEMY ENTRY Qualifications: Applicants for nomination are evaluated upon academic performance using SAT and ACT exam scores, class rank, and high school/college transcripts. Physical aptitude is judged by an individual's involvement in athletic activities. Leadership potential is based upon leadership roles in extra-curricular activities such as organized sports, class government, clubs, scouting and community involvement. Motivation to serve the nation and making the military a career is a highly valued attribute. Recommendations are required from teachers and others familiar with the accomplishments of an applicant. Physical aptitude and medical/vision exams are required of all applicants and are scheduled and evaluated by the academies. REQUESTING
