Warning: Scam Artists Still Operating Months after Hurricane Ike

AUSTIN, Texas -- Although it has been more than two months since Hurricane Ike devastated Texas' upper Gulf Coast, residents should be aware that swindlers continue to operate throughout the disaster area, warn officials of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Texas Governor's Division of Emergency Management (GDEM). By the Numbers 003: More Than $664 Million In Grants, Loans And Public Assistance Funding

AUSTIN, Texas -- Federal and state dollars continue to quickly flow into Texas communities recovering from Hurricane Ike. To date, more than $664,000,000 in federal and state grants, U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loans, and public infrastructure funding has been approved or obligated. Federal/State Gustav Disaster Aid Exceeds $20 Million

LONG BEACH, Miss. -- Disaster aid for homeowners, renters, business owners, state and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations affected by Hurricane Gustav reached $20,236,338 thus far, according to officials of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). By the Numbers 002: Tens Of Thousands Served At Disaster Recovery Centers

AUSTIN, Texas -- On September 19, 2008, just days after Texas received a federal disaster declaration for massive destruction caused by Hurricane Ike; the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) opened its first Disaster Recovery Center to provide face-to-face disaster assistance to homeowners, renters and business owners who suffered losses and damage from the storm. After more than fifty days, the opening of more than a hundred centers and tens of thousands of visits, a total of 31 centers remain open serving 12 hard-hit counties. Read more

FEMA Teams Offer Home Repair Advice At Local Stores

AUSTIN, Texas -- Teams of hazard mitigation specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be available at five local home improvement centers to answer questions residents may have about protecting their homes from future disaster damage. They will explain flood- and wind-resistant building techniques, and will offer advice on topics such as home elevation, safe rooms, wind straps, flood insurance and other measures to make homes stronger and safer. Residents Encouraged to Register for FEMA Assistance

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- There is still time to register for the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Individuals and Households Program. At the request of the state, the deadlines to register for assistance were extended to Dec. 3, 2008 for Hurricane Gustav and Dec. 11, 2008 for Hurricane Ike. Read more

By the Numbers 001: Texas 'Other Needs Assistance' Exceeds $1 Million Per Day

AUSTIN, Texas -- Fifty-three days following Hurricane Ike's assault on Texas, more than $64 million in Other Needs Assistance (ONA) has been awarded to residents by the State of Texas and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). 400 Familias De Texas Afectadas Por El Huracán Ike En Viviendas Prefabricadas

AUSTIN, Texas -- Más de 400 familias, afectadas por el huracán Ike, están acomodándose en sus viviendas prefabricadas instaladas en su propiedad o en un parque comercial establecido de viviendas móviles. La Agencia Federal para el Manejo de Emergencias (FEMA, por sus siglas en inglés) está implementando esta forma de vivienda directa en respuesta a una solicitud de parte del estado y está trabajando con las comunidades estatales y locales para asegurar que el proceso se lleve a cabo sin problemas.
