Fighting for the People of Soundview
- Secured $800,000 for Soundview Community in Action for the modernization and expansion of their cyber cafŽ dedicated to providing Òat riskÓ youth in the community and their families a safe place in order to introduce or broaden their familiarity with the use of computers in a user-friendly environment
- Delivered $800,000 in Federal funding for the continued construction of the Soundview Connection Greenway for improvements in the areas from Bruckner Boulevard to Soundview Park. These funds will improve community access to the Soundview Park Greenway, a large greenspace currently being restored by the City and Federal Government.
- Continually working with the members of the Concerned Residents Organization in calling for the City's School Construction Authority to take immediate action in cleaning up the site of the New Bronx Academy High School, located on the Loral Electronics site
- Ensured the Federal Army Corps of Engineers brought in over $800,000 for ecosystem restoration activities to Soundview Park to bring this area back to its natural habitat
- Strongly supportive of the Federal COPS program that has put over 7,300 new officers onto the streets of New York City, and also supported the expansion of the NYPD's Operation Impact anti-crime initiative, which saturates high-crime areas with additional officers to target and reduce crime, to include Soundview
- Brought $50,000 to the American Red Cross, Bronx Service Center on White Plains Road to build upon the educational programming and mentoring services in the Soundview community
- Working to keep New York Express Bus service for the commuters in Soundview
- Enacting into law legislation mandating a review and overhaul of the postal operations throughout the Bronx to ensure greater service and efficiency for its customers
- Ensuring $350,000 in Federal funds was given to the Bronx for beach restoration at Orchard Beach
