Fighting for the People of Spencer Estates
- Working to keep New York Express Bus service continuing for the commuters in City Island
- Bringing over $250,000 for local after school programs at Spencer Estates schools, including the Bronx Young Actors Guild
- Delivering over $14 Million Federal dollars for the maintenance, protection and water quality improvements of Long Island Sound
- Wrote the law creating the High Threat, Urban Area Account Program, the only Federal Homeland Security program targeted for AmericaÕs urban areas at greatest risk of attack. This program has delivered over $529 million in additional Federal homeland security funding to New York City
- Led passage into law of bill to provide $9.6 Million for the future construction of Throggs neck-Co-op City collector-distributor road along I-95 to alleviate traffic pressure
- Helped write the law to allow Federal Home Ownership Aid to help municipal employees, such as police officers, firefighters and teachers, buy homes in the communities they serve, benefiting their families and communities
- Secured Federal funds for the Bronx River Basin project, an environmental restoration project which has identified 18 sites for ecosystem restoration along the River
- Successfully convinced the Federal Department of Veterans Affairs to keep the four VA hospitals in New York City Ð St Albans, Manhattan, Bronx and Brooklyn Ð open, operating and accepting patients
- Enacted into law legislation mandating a review and overhaul of the postal operations throughout the Bronx to ensure greater service and efficiency for its customers
