Preparing America's Children
"As the father of three young children, I recognize the importance of having the best public education system for the greatest City in the U.S. --- smaller classrooms, better teachers, more modern technology and greater discipline. I am working everyday in Washington to make our schools better."
Fighting for Queens and the Bronx
- Congressman Crowley believes in an equal distribution for education funding throughout the City.
- Led New York City delegation in demanding the elimination of a legal provision that shortchanges children in Queens and the Bronx of their fair share of education funding
Keeping Our Children Safe
- Secured $800,000 for Soundview Community in Action in the Bronx; $400,000 to the Father Billini Association in Northwest Queens; and $400,000 to the Neighborhood Enhancement Training and Services, Inc (N.E.T.S.) in the Bronx, all to provide after-school programs and computer centers to young people at-risk in the after school hours between 3 pm and 8 pm.
- Obtained $250,000 for after-school programs for Bronx schools, on top of the $1.25 million already received for Library Improvements and improved teaching of American History
Improving Education Quality
- Ensured $600,000 in Federal funding for an innovative teacher training program at LaGuardia Community College
- Successfully persuaded Congress to adopt legislation to bring an additional $6 million over 3 years to Jackson Heights/East Elmhurst/Elmhurst/Woodside/Sunnyside schools for the Magnet School Assistance Program.
Protecting Head Start
- Strong supporter of Head Start, which prepares 1,638 pre-K, economically disadvantaged children for school in New York's 7th District.
- Fighting to counter recent cuts to the Head Start program that would cut out 1,300 deserving children in New York's 7th District and over 750,000 children nationally.
