After her daughter Ariel lost her battle against AIDS in 1988, Elizabeth and her two best friends, Susan DeLaurentis and Susie Zeegen, created the Pediatric AIDS Foundation with a simple, but critical, mission: to bring hope to children with AIDS. Elizabeth understood that tackling the AIDS epidemic would take the commitment of everyone, including Congress and the Administration. As a result, Elizabeth came to Washington and tenaciously lobbied elected officials one-on-one until they were personally changed by her courage. The Foundation carries on her legacy by advocating for the best public policies for children here in the United States and around the world.
