The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reduces the loss of life and property and protects our nation's institutions from all types of hazards (whether natural disaster or terrorist assault) through a comprehensive, risk-based emergency management program of preparedness, prevention, response, and recovery. Its mission is to further the evolution of the emergency management culture; develop and manage a national training and evaluation system for local, state, and Federal training efforts; preparing America by placing priority on citizen preparedness; and oversee the Federal Government's coordinated, comprehensive, national response and recovery strategy.
