Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Staff Assistant assists the department manager by providing administrative and technical support for various meetings and conferences; collecting, assembling, and summarizing information and data for use in high-level meetings and conferences; arranging meeting space, speakers, and details for large conferences; writing letters to the speakers, participants, and hotel management; coordinating transportation to and from the meeting site; and monitoring the status of sensitive issues, special concerns and projects for the office. The Staff Assistant also controls the calender for the department manager, schedules meetings and appointments; answers, verbally or in writing, inquiries of a non-technical nature; and reviews all correspondence and incoming/outgoing mail. This position may be filled at the GS-9 or GS-11 level.

Requirements:

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade within Federal service. Specialized experience is experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of that position.

Conditions:

FEMA employees are subject to 24-hour on-call in the event of an emergency. This position may also require irregular working hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and duties other than those specified in the official job description. FEMA employees must be able to relocate to emergency sites with little advance notice and function under intense physical and mental stress.
