An IRIS search has been updated -- Search by Evidence for Human Carcinogenicity. The updated search allows allows IRIS users to search the IRIS database to identify substances by weight-of-evidence classifications established by EPA using the 1986, 1996, and 1999 Guidelines for Carcinogen Risk Assessment. These guidelines reflect the evolution of the science in this area and the corresponding evolution of the Agency's approach to characterizing weight-of-evidence for human carcinogenicity. A new search has been added to the IRIS Web site -- Search IRIS by Uncertainty and Modifying Factors. The new search allows IRIS users to search for the composite uncertainty factor values, uncertainty factors and uncertainty factor values, and modifying factor values used to derive RfDs and RfCs. The search will return the identity of the substances for which the selected factors have a selected value or value range. To view the search, please go to the IRIS Search page.

Screening-Level Literature Review Findings -- General findings of EPA's screening-level review of the recent health effects literature have been added to the "EPA Review" sections of 160 IRIS Summaries. IRIS users may request information about the review methods and results from the IRIS Hotline at hotline.iris@epa.gov or 202-566-1676.

The IRIS program support contractor operations will be relocated from the contractor facilities in Greenbelt, MD. This change is described in the Federal Register notice link located in the October 14, 2003 Recent Additions item below. An invitation to nominate new assessments for the Fiscal Year 2004 IRIS Program was published in the Federal Register on August 13, 2003 (Vol. 68, Number 156). An electronic nomination form for submission of substances is located on the Federal Register notice. In addition, this notice highlights 6 substances that were added to the fiscal year 2003 agenda (published in the Federal Register on February 5, 2003) and requests the submission of pertinent scientific information for the development of these health assessments.
