Annual Performance Reports for 2007 are due from each member facility by April 1, 2008. To read Members' previous Annual Performance Reports, see the Members page.

As a component of membership in the Performance Track program, each member facility completes an Annual Performance Report in which it demonstrates to EPA and the public its environmental accomplishments over the year, its continued high level of environmental performance, and its maintenance of the Performance Track membership criteria. The Annual Performance Report includes the following:

Completing and Submitting Annual Performance Reports

Note: Performance Track will hold teleconference workshops to describe the whys and hows of the APR process and answer any questions you might have:

To register, please contact the Performance Track Information Center at 1-888-339-7875. If you plan to attend, please make sure that your user name and password for P-Track Online are functioning so that you may follow along during the workshop.

Through PTrack Online, members can complete, save, revise, review, and submit Annual Performance Reports. Links to relevant instructions and guidance are provided throughout the Report form. Additionally, this on-line system pre-completes answers to Report questions to the extent that EPA's database already contains the relevant information for a given facility. Members should also fax a copy of Section E (Self-Certification of Continued Program Participation) to the Performance Track Information Center at 1-888-339-PTRK (1-888-339-7875). (Performance Track staff continue to work on providing members with electronic signature capabilities.)

Important Note: When you sign section E of the Annual Performance Report, you certify that you have read and agreed to the terms and conditions specified in the National Environmental Performance Track Program Guide. Please be sure to download and read the Program Guide before completing your report.

If you would like to see the format of the Annual Performance Report prior to going to P-Track Online, take a look at this pdf (PDF, 104KB, 12 pp About PDF) version of the document. Instructions for the Report are contained in the Help pages of P-Track Online, but you can also use this Word (Word Document, 161KB) version of the instructions.

Facilities that require assistance in accessing or completing the electronic form can gain assistance by contacting the Performance Track Information Center at 1-888-339-PTRK (1-888-339-7875) or at ptrack@indecon.com.

Due Date

Annual Performance Reports are due on April 1 of each year, beginning with the April 1st following the year in which a member is accepted into the program, and annually thereafter.

The due date for reports covering the 2007 calendar year is April 1, 2008.

Normalizing Guidance

Normalization is the process of adjusting environmental performance measurements to account for increases or decreases in production over time. It is essential for demonstrating changing levels of eco-efficiency and therefore is integral to measuring and reporting in the Performance Track program. Performance Track has developed some guidance (PDF, 302KB, 27 pp.) to help facilities with normalizing their performance goal data.

Confidential Business Information (CBI)

Please do not include any CBI in your Annual Performance Report. Please keep in mind that EPA will make the report publicly available, including posting all portions of your report on the Performance Track website.

EPA Review of Annual Performance Reports

Once a member facility submits an Annual Performance Report, staff in EPA headquarters and regional offices will review the report. A facility may be contacted if EPA identifies any significant problems. It will take EPA approximately 30-60 days to review the Annual Performance Reports. Once a report is revised (if necessary) and accepted, it will be made publicly available, used in Performance Track program evaluation and possibly for program outreach purposes.

Facilities' Public Distribution of Report

Performance Track does not prescribe a means for a facility's public transmission of the Annual Performance Report, but expects that each facility will select a means consistent with its situation and its other public outreach activities. Section D of the Annual Performance Report includes a menu of options that a facility may consider.

On-site Documentation

A facility should maintain on-site the supporting documentation used to prepare its Annual Performance Report and make this documentation available to EPA upon EPA's request.

Multiple-Facility Member Organizations

Organizations with multiple facilities in the Performance Track program may find it more efficient to coordinate the preparation of the reports at the corporate level or at a single facility. To the extent possible, Performance Track staff will help facilitate such coordination. However, consistent with the facility-based orientation of Performance Track, the questions in the Annual Performance Report are focused on the activities and environmental performance at individual facilities. Thus, a complete, separate Annual Performance Report is requested from each member facility.

NAICS Codes

Section A of the Annual Performance Report Form asks the member facility for the North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) Code(s) that are used to classify business at the facility. The form asks for NAICS codes, as opposed to the traditional Standard Industry Classification (SIC) codes, because the entire Federal government is transitioning to the use of NAICS codes. If you need assistance in converting from SIC to NAICS codes, the Census Bureau has a site that searches by key word and provides a Bridge between NAICS and SIC Exit Disclaimer . To determine your facility's classification code(s), consult the 1997 NAICS and 1987 SIC Correspondence Tables Exit Disclaimer or Search for NAICS codes by key words Exit Disclaimer .
