Policy and Guidance
- SAFETEA-LU Deadline for New Planning Requirements (July 1, 2007) Memorandum
- This final rule (effective March 16, 2007) revises the regulations governing the development of metropolitan transportation plans and programs for urbanized areas, State transportation plans and programs and the regulations for Congestion Management Systems. The revision results from the passage of the SAFETEA-LU Final Rule for Statewide and Metropolitan Transportation Planning.
- On January 8, 2001 the Final Rule on ITS Architecture and Standards Conformity (Final Rule) and the Final Policy on Architecture and Standards Conformity (Final Policy) were enacted by the FHWA and FTA respectively. The Final Rule/Final Policy ensures that Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) projects carried out using funds from the Highway Trust Fund including the Mass Transit Account conform to the National ITS Architecture and applicable ITS standards.
