Important Notice:
Effective July 1, 2008 pursuant to Georgia law O.C.G.A. 43-41 Builders and General Contractors will be required to have a contractors license as issued by the State of Georgia Licensing Board in order to obtain construction permits in the State of Georgia. Some limited service and traditional specialty contractors are exempt from the licensing requirements. The Business License Division is part of Cobb County's Community Development Department.

Our main office is located at 191 Lawrence St., Building "E", just one block east of the downtown Marietta Square.

The Business License Division is responsible for the collection of Business Registration Certificate Fees, Occupation Taxes, Liquor by the Drink Taxes, Alcoholic Beverage Excise Taxes, Hotel/Motel Occupancy Taxes, Financial Institution Taxes, Cable Franchise Fees, and various other business related taxes as outlined in the Cobb County Code of Ordinances.

The Business License Division is also responsible for the issuing of all alcoholic beverage licenses, taxicab / vehicle for hire licenses, and many other specially regulated business licenses.

These include but are not limited to Door-to-Door Sales, Massage Practitioners, Pawnshops, Adult Entertainment, Fortune Tellers, Hypnotists, Palm Readers, and Peddlers.

The Business License Division is dedicated to serving the needs of small businesses as a key source of information concerning various legal requirements and restrictions regarding business practices and governmental support and regulation.

If your business is located within the city limits of one of the following, please contact that municipality to obtain a business registration certificate:

  • City of Acworth
  • City of Austell
  • City of Kennesaw
  • City of Marietta
  • City of Powder Springs
  • City of Smyrna

    To obtain a Cobb County business registration certificate, business registration, or occupation tax application, you can now download one from our Web site. You will need to have the Adobe "Acrobat" reader installed on your computer to view these files.

    After completing your application, and the affidavit verifying status, fax it to (770) 528-8414, and then call our office during our normal hours regarding fee amounts and additional information at (770) 528-8410.
