Evans Cooling Systems
Evans Cooling Systems is an automotive coolant producer based in Sharon, Conn., and has been active in the China market. In June 2005, the company approached the U.S. Commercial Service in China with concerns that its intellectual property rights (IPR) were being violated due to fake automotive coolant being marketed in China using Evans' technology which is patented in China. Not only did the fake products claim that they could achieve the same results as Evans, they also made up a name and claimed the fake goods were also imported from America.
Looking into the issue, the Commercial Service in Shanghai and Guangzhou advised Evans in obtaining legal representation, outlined the legal parameters of the case, and initiated contact with local Chinese officials. Following up on this effort over several weeks, the Commercial Service helped Evans prepare documentation, and sent the documentation and a letter to a key Chinese government agency in Guangdong Province requesting their assistance in resolving the issue as quickly as possible against the fake producer of coolant.
In late 2005, an Evans representative informed the U.S. Commercial Service that that fake coolant was no longer being sold, and credited the Commercial Service for working closely on its behalf. “The Commercial Service steered us in the right direction, and saved our company valuable time and resources in helping us navigate and resolve this important issue,” says Evans Cooling Systems’ Shanghai Director Danielle Zhang. “China continues to be an important market for our company, and we look forward to expanding our presence in this market.”
