Start Work
Before Your Arrival
After you receive your written offer letter, the following procedures must be completed:
- Review your offer letter.
- Return signed offer letter.
- Complete a drug test no greater than 60 days before your start date. You can initiate the drug test by clicking here. You will be linked to the S.E.D. Medical Laboratory to complete a request. S.E.D. will then contact you to arrange for the drug test at your location. You should plan the drug test at least 2 weeks prior to your start date to allow the results to be processed. You cannot begin work at LANL until a negative drug test result is received.
- Coordinate your start date and house hunting trip (if necessary) with your
manager and HR.
- Review benefits orientation on this site appropriate for your hiring status. Complete the benefits election forms and bring with you on your day of orientation. You have 31 days (period of eligibility [PIE]) from the date of your hire to enroll, otherwise you will miss your PIE and have to wait for Open Enrollment in November to be eligible the following January.
- In preparation for your first day of work please have the required forms complete and ready to turn into the Human Resource representative. He/She will also be available to answer any questions you may have concerning the forms at orientation.

- If your job requires a clearance, review the security clearance processes.
- Complete the online Initial Security Briefing. Be sure to print the course acknowledgment at the end of the course. You will need to do this in order to receive your cryptocard by the third day of employment.
