GOVERNOR RELEASES $95,273 TO SUPPORT REHABILITATION PROGRAM FOR FEMALE OFFENDERS

December 11 - Governor Lingle visited the Ka Hale Ho‘āla Hou Nā Wāhine (The Home of Reawakening for Women) transitional facility and announced the release of a $95,273 grant-in-aid to TJ Mahoney & Associates for the program, which assists women residents with reentry into the community following incarceration.

"Our goal is to empower inmates so that they can successfully transition from prison back into the community," said Governor Lingle.

"By creating a comprehensive work release program that is tailored for women, Ka Hale Ho‘āla Hou No Nā Wāhine has accomplished this goal and helped hundreds of residents rebuild their lives."

The Governor also toured the facility, where she met with staff and inmates, and shared words of encouragement.

"The greatest thing about life is that every day is a whole new beginning," the Governor said.  "I hope you will use this transitional time to learn new skills and take advantage of the opportunity you have been given."

The state Department of Public Safety has contracted with TJ Mahoney & Associates to operate the Ka Hale Ho‘āla Hou Nā Wāhine transitional facility since 1992.
