COMPREHENSIVE COMMUNICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE SUBMITS REPORT TO GOVERNOR

October 13 - The Governor's Comprehensive Communications Review Committee submitted its final report outlining actions news organizations, government agencies and utilities have taken to improve emergency communications following the October 15, 2006 Kiholo Earthquake and O`ahu blackout.

"The committee is proud of this report," said Lenny Klompus, Senior Advisor - Communications for Governor Lingle and committee co-chair.  "The public should feel a greater confidence that they will receive information in an accurate and timely manner following an emergency."

The Governor convened the committee to review emergency communications procedures to ensure residents and visitors receive accurate and timely information during natural disasters and other emergencies.

Committee members included more than 100 government officials from state, county and federal agencies; owners, general managers and publishers from print, broadcast, radio and Internet media statewide; representatives from telecommunications providers; and editors and reporters who were 'on the ground' gathering information and reporting on the day of the earthquake.
