GOVERNOR SUPPORTS PACIFIC CENTER FOR ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES AT WINDWARD COMMUNITY COLLEGE

September 10 - Governor Lingle attended the Mâlama Honua (Caring for our World) luncheon to celebrate Windward Community College's (WCC) Pacific Center for Environmental Studies (PaCES) program.

"PaCES is exactly the type of program our state needs, and is a perfect complement to the Hawai`i Innovation Initiative," the Governor said, referring to the program's goal to 'create a workforce that can meet future challenges using science and technology.'

The Governor also thanked WCC faculty and staff for their vision and innovation, and for getting young students interested in science early on.

"I have no doubt that students and teachers from PaCES will positively impact our state's future," she said.

PaCES focuses on creating an educated workforce equipped to handle the environmental challenges of the future using modern science and technology with a sensitivity for traditional knowledge and practices.
