GOVERNOR CHEERS ON BOTBALL PARTICIPANTS
April 28 - Governor Lingle
cheered on thirty-seven teams from 34 middle and high schools from across
the state at the Hawai‘i Botball Regional Tournament. This hands-on
educational experience in robotics is designed to engage students in
learning practical applications of science, technology, engineering and math
(STEM). Increasing STEM skills among Hawai‘i students is a key component of
the Lingle-Aiona Administration’s Hawai‘i Innovation Initiative, which seeks
to develop the innovation capacity of Hawai‘i residents and provide the
education and training they need to compete successfully in the global
economy. "Studying math and science is the most patriotic thing
they (students) can do for our country," said Mark Leon, chief of the
education division at NASA Ames Research Center.
