National Public Lands Day - September 27, 2008
The public is invited to participate in a National Public Lands Day work crew on Saturday September 27 that will pull buckthorn, a non-native species that crowds out native plants. This service project is part of the effort to remove several types of non-native invasive plants from the refuge and improve wildlife habitat. Volunteers will meet at the Old School House on County Road 9, 5.5 miles west of Highway 169, at 1:00 p.m. and car pool from there to the work area. Participants are asked to bring drinking water and loppers, if you have them, and wear long sleeve shirts, long pants, work gloves and closed-toe shoes or boots. Minimum age for this project is 12 years old. The work session will end at 4:00 p.m. To register for this activity, contact Nancy Haugen, Visitor Services Manager, at 763-389-3323 extension 13 or send an email to nancy_haugen@fws.gov.
