International Migratory Bird Day

Visitors viewing wildlifeInternational Migratory Bird Day, a celebration of thereturn of millions of migratory birds to their breeding areas, will be observed at Sherburne Refuge on Saturday, May 9 with guided bird tours open to the public. The first tour, "Songbird Search," begins at 7 a.m. and runs until noon. Participants travel to nearby trails and the Wildlife Drive to look for migrating songbirds. Warblers heading north to breeding grounds are likely to be seen. The 8:30 a.m. tour, "Birds In The Wetlands," includes a car caravan to the Wildlife Drive to look for birds using the wetlands, grasslands and woodland edges. This program is excellent for beginning birders and families.

Pre-registration is requested for all tours by calling the Refuge office at (763) 389-3323 ext. 13. Participants are encouraged to bring a pair of binoculars and a field guide to birds. All programs begin at the Old School House and are free and open to the public.

The Old School House is located on Sherburne County Road 9, 5.5 miles west of Highway 169 or 2 miles east of County Road 5. Migratory Bird Day is co-sponsored by the Refuge and Friends of Sherburne.
