John Day NWR is a cooperative effort between NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS) and the U. S. Forest Service Malheur National Forest. The broadcast originates from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pendleton and transmits on a frequency of 162.500 MHz from Fall Mountain, south of John Day.

The John Day NOAA Weather Radio Transmitter is located at Fall Mountain, Oregon at an elevation of 5935 feet.
