We extended Unemployment Insurance to the growing number of Americans looking for work ... made healthy food affordable to millions of American ... and launched a new GI Bill for a full, four-year education for the veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan

Ackerman Introduces Legislation to Reinstate Rule Regulating Short Sales of Stocks -
(Washington, DC) - U.S. Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-NY), a Senior Member of the House Financial Services Committee, today introduced legislation that would reinstate the uptick rule, a regulation that required all short sale stock transactions to be conducted at a price that was higher than the price of the previous trade.

Ackerman Announces Money for Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center -
(Washington, DC) - U.S. Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-Queens/L.I.) today announced that the House Appropriations Committee has approved $200,000 for the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center (JCC) in East Hills, Long Island. The funds, which Ackerman requested, were approved as part of the 2009 Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriations bill.

Ackerman Announces Federal Funds for North Hempstead Approved by Congressional Committee -
(Washington, DC) - U.S. Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-Queens/L.I.) today announced that the House Appropriations Committee has approved funds for two projects in the Town of North Hempstead. The projects include a program for at-risk youth and an alternative energy initiative, both being undertaken by the Town. The funds, which Ackerman requested, were approved as part of two separate appropriations bills.

Ackerman Praises New Rule Banning Unfair Credit Card Practices -
(Washington, DC) - Rep. Gary L. Ackerman (D-Queens/L.I.), a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, today praised a proposed rule issued by the Federal Trade Commission that would ban unfair and deceptive credit card practices. In a letter to the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, the Director of the Office of Thrift Supervision, and the Chairwoman of the National Credit Union Administration, Ackerman called the rule “an important and necessary step towards fairness and shared responsibility in credit card contracts.”
