Cows From Canada Found in Washington State |
|
Three more of the cows that came
from Canada with the BSE-positive cow were located at a facility
in Tenino, Washington; one additional animal was located in
Connell. Washington State placed a hold on the Tenino facility
to facilitate the investigation. A total of 23 of the 81 cows

Service issued four new rules to implement announcements made
last week by Secretary Veneman to further enhance safeguards
against BSE. The rules
include product holding, specified risk material, advanced meat

Approximately 450 animals
euthanized by American Veterinary Medical Association
humane guidelines. Animal carcasses secured and disposed of by landfill on January
7; no carcasses entered the human food supply chain or were rendered. USDA located another
animal that entered the United States with the index cow.

originated from an Alberta, Canada, dairy farm. New DNA
