Tropical Depression Fourteen developed from a distinct tropical wave which exited the coast of Africa on 4 September. The system gradually organized and became a tropical depression at 1200 UTC 9 September. It was the only tropical depression which formed and did not reach tropical storm status in the eastern Atlantic. The depression moved toward the northwest and encountered strong upper-level winds which removed the convection from the low-level center.

The best track positions of tropical Depression Fourteen are shown in Fig. 1 (31K GIF). Table 1 is a listing, at six-hour intervals, of the best-track position, estimated minimum central pressure and maximum 1-minute surface wind speed.
