The implementation of most Forest projects occurs through a process that includes scoping, comments and decisions.

SCOPING

During the early stages of evaluating certain proposed actions, the Forest Service accepts comments in order to help identify significant issues and possibly generate other alternatives that meet the purpose and need of the project.

The Forest Service accepts comments on certain proposals for 30 calendar days following publication of a legal notice in the Union Democrat. The publication date in that newspaper of record is the exclusive means for calculating the comment period. Those wishing to comment should not rely upon dates or timeframe information provided by any other source. The regulations prohibit extending the length of the comment period.

FOREST PLANNING

Continued planning occurs so that the Forest Plan remains a dynamic and responsible tool for managing the Forest's land and resources in a changing social and economic climate.

SCHEDULE OF PROPOSED ACTIONS (SOPA)

The SOPA informs people of environmental analyses currently in progress or recently completed on the Forest pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
