Speakers Bureau

"Why are scientists studying Yucca Mountain, Nevada?" If you've asked yourself this question, or wanted to know more about the Department of Energy's Yucca Mountain Project (DOE/YMP), our speakers bureau can supply you with an expert to provide answers to your questions.

Scientists and engineers working on the Yucca Mountain Project have conducted more than two decades of intensive studies of the mountain to determine its suitability for disposing of high-level nuclear waste in an underground repository. Presentations are available as a public service to any school, group, or organization interested in learning more about the Project. We have a roster of speakers ranging from generalists to specialists.

Here's a list of some of our presentation topics:

  • General overview of the Yucca Mountain Project
  • Update on new and ongoing work
  • Nuclear energy and other energy sources
  • Geology of the Yucca Mountain area
  • Hydrology (the study of the properties, distribution and circulation of water on the surface, in the soil, in underlying rocks, and in the atmosphere)
  • Volcanology (the study of volcanoes)
  • Environmental science as it applies to the Yucca Mountain region
  • Earthquakes
  • Radiation
  • Transporting nuclear waste
  • Socioeconomic impacts of the Yucca Mountain Project
  • Archaeology, paleontology and meteorology of the Yucca Mountain area

Inviting a speaker from the Project is an opportunity to have your questions answered by a member of the YMP staff. To arrange a presentation, call the YMP Speakers Bureau Coordinator at (702) 821-8053.
