Augusta, Maine (September 8, 2008) -- Director of Public Affairs Kelly O’Brien presented a $250,000 EDA investment check to Governor John E. Baldacci in Augusta, Maine. This investment check is in response to recent flooding which will help the State of Maine develop a business-focused disaster mitigation and recovery plan. Pictured (L-R): Governor John E. Calexico, Calif. (September 4, 2008) – Deputy Assistant Secretary Matthew Crow and U.S. Representative Bob Filner presented a $3 million EDA investment check to the city of Calexico to help build the infrastructure needed to develop the Town Center Plaza and the Portico/Kloke industrial and commercial sites. The investment is expected to generate $400 million in private investment and create more than 2,000 new jobs. Woodward, Okla. (August 29, 2008) -- EDA Director of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs Patty Sheetz and U.S. Senator James Inhofe presented a $1 million EDA investment check to the city of Woodward, Okla., to help build the Woodward Community Campus Project, a higher educational and conference center campus that will help train and educated the region’s workforce to meet the growing needs of businesses and industry. The investment is expected to help create 192 jobs and generate $1.6 million in private investment. Baruah delivered remarks at the opening dinner for the U.S./Brazil International Learning Laboratory Conference hosted by the Council on Competiveness at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. The Innovation Learning Laboratory focused primarily on the legal and regulatory environments necessary to spur innovation, entrepreneurship and prosperity. Albuquerque, N.M. (August 15, 2008) -- U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Sandy K. Baruah joined U.S. Senator Pete Domenici and U.S. Representative Heather Wilson in celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the Sandia Science & Technology Park. The Sandia Science & Technology Park is dedicated to linking public sector research with private sector business opportunities to accelerate innovation. Commerce Secretary Gutierrez Announces Immediate $3 Million in Initial Support to Help Iowa Plan Economic Recovery
Cedar Rapids (July 1)—Twenty-four hours after President Bush signed a multi-billion dollar disaster supplemental spending bill that provides $100 million in targeted economic planning funding in the Midwest region, U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez traveled today to Iowa and announced the Commerce Department will immediately provide an initial $3 million in federal funds to quickly help Iowa develop a state-wide economic recovery strategy. Jaffrey, N.H. – (August 22, 2007) U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Sandy K. U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Ben Erulkar today presented a $1 million Economic Development Administration (EDA) investment to Glynn County, Ga. The investment will help expand and upgrade the Southport Wastewater Treatment Plant to serve the Colonel’s Island port facility and the I-95 Exit 29 interchange area.
