The Coast Guard
Personnel Command was originally commissioned as the Military Personnel
Command in October 1993. The Military Personnel Command was created from
the Commandant’s Office of Personnel and Training to focus primarily on
customer service delivery to the exclusion of the more traditional
Headquarters functions of resource, legislation and policy development.
On 1 January 1996, the Military Personnel Command expanded to become the
Coast Guard Personnel Command, adding the Reserve and Civilian Personnel
Management Divisions. The Civilian Personnel Management division was
subsequently moved to the Commandant’s
Human Resources
Directorate (CG-1211) in 2001. Additionally, in 2001 the
Coast Guard Recruiting Center was officially detached
from Personnel Command and established as a separate command.
In 2003, Coast Guard Personnel Command relocated to Arlington, Virginia.
