The Northwest Regional Education and Outreach Group (NWREOG) was formed in the fall of 2003, under the leadership of Rebecca Reuter, to coordinate various education and outreach events and activities including current annual programs such as:


NWREOG is made up of members from many different NOAA offices in Seattle and the Puget Sound area, Washington Sea Grant (WSG) and the University of Washington’s Joint Institute for the Study of Atmosphere and Oceans (JISAO).

The Environmental Education Association of Washington (EEAW) is Washington’s professional association for environmental educators and stakeholders. EEAW is dedicated to increasing the awareness of and support for environmental education in the state of Washington. EEAW is a service oriented association working to support all who provide quality environmental education programs, training, and materials.

Washington Science Teachers Association (WSTA) Conference

This annual conference allows teachers, local and state administrators, department chairs, university science methods professors, pre-service teachers, and informal science educators to experience the latest updates in education reform, products and services. Treasures of NOAA's Ark exhibit

Treasures of NOAA's Ark

As the Nation's oldest scientific agency, NOAA celebrated part of its 200th anniversary in 2007 at Seattle's Pacific Science Center with an exhibit of artifacts telling the history of maritime science and technology. The event was regionalized with additional exhibits specific to NOAA’s history in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, including contributions from many of NOAA’s line offices.

Get to Know NOAA Weekend at the Pacific Science Center

This special event was held in June 2007 Seattle's Pacific Science Center as part of NOAA's 200th aniversary celebration. The event had the theme of "Science, Service and Stewardship" and featured educational demonstrations, activities and lectures staffed by NOAA scientists.

Information was provided on topics such as fishing, pressure, oceans, marine ecosystems, bio-diversity, and weather. Visitors raced boats, met NOAA scientist, and were entertained by story telling, sea shanty performances, and demonstrations on sea survival and science in the planetarium.  View a slide show of the event.

Earth Week 2006

In 2005 and 2006, NWREOG members helped raise local community awareness of environmental issues and the science that NOAA researchers are conducting every day around the world.
