The Pacific Southwest Research Station represents the research and development branch of the USDA Forest Service in the states of California and Hawaii and the U.S. affiliated Pacific Islands. Our primary work occurs in California (the most populous state with the fifth largest economy in the world) and Hawaii (a strategic location in the Pacific Rim economies and tourism). We develop and deliver science-based information, technologies, understanding, and applications to help people make well-informed decisions about natural resource management, conservation, and environmental protection.

Photo: Emerald Bay Tahoe Science: The round 9 request for proposals has been issued. It opened on September 2, 2008 and closes October 23, 2008 at 4:30 P.M., Pacific time. Proposals must be complete and follow the formatting requirements set forth in the Request for Proposal. The Proposal Template is provided for your use. PSW and the TSC have issued a Science Update Report that describes all of the projects funded under the program as well as agency needs relative to the Round 9 subthemes.

Introducing CALFED - A product that was developed by the Pacific Southwest Research Station, in cooperation with the Lassen National Forest, to introduce the CALFED watershed improvement program on the Lassen National Forest. The analysis and restoration program was initiated to expand and accelerate the Forest's efforts to protect and improve habitat for some of the last naturally reproducing populations of steelhead and spring-run Chinook salmon in the Sacramento River system. The program includes work in five watersheds, Antelope, Battle, Butte, Deer and Mill Creeks, all tributary to the Sacramento River. Check it out in our Water area under Research Topics - CALFED .
