Learn from other communities about what works to reduce impaired driving.

  • For Community Organizations
New York State’s Special Traffic Options Program for Driving While Intoxicated (STOP-DWI) was the first fine-supported local options program in the country. The legislation was enacted to empower local governments to develop financially self-sustaining programs that would decrease alcohol and other drug related traffic crashes.
  • For Employers
GEICO Insurance knows that the winter holidays are among the most dangerous times of the year for drivers, and not just because of the weather.
  • For Educators
The University of Texas Designated Driver Program (UT DDP) was founded in 1989 with the help of a small group of students and the Interfraternity Council.
  • For Medical and Healthcare Organizations
The Harvard University's School of Public Health (SPH) joined forces with the White House and the entertainment industry in a "Designated Driver" media campaign aimed at curbing alcohol-related fatalities during the Millennium New Year's Eve.
  • For the Armed Forces
Airmen Against Drunk Driving (AADD) was formed to eliminate the alarming number of DUIs/DWIs on Air Force bases and in surrounding communities.

  • For the Motorcyclists
This program is only good in the state of MINNESOTA. Motorcycle Dial-A-Ride provides FREE transportation for an alcohol-impaired rider, along with their passenger, and their motorcycle to their home or local accommodation. The impaired rider or someone else can call toll free at: 1-888-DIALRIDE or 1-888-342-5743.

  • For Hospitality Success Stories
The Aspen (Colorado) Tipsy Taxi program helps keep both locals and tourists safe from the devastation caused by drunk drivers by offering an alternative to impaired driving.
  • For Youth Audiences
The following success stories feature city and statewide programs that target all ages from kindergartners to college-aged youth.

  • For The Sports
In order to address the problem of safety at the stadium and on San Diego roadways after each home game, the San Diego Padres and the San Diego Chapter of MADD teamed up to create the Dry-er Friar program to encourage fans to designate a sober driver.
