Thank you for your interest in a career with the United States Trustee Program (USTP). The USTP offers a wide variety of positions in its headquarters in Washington, DC, and in its offices throughout the country―including attorneys, auditors, paralegals, legal clerks, and administrative support personnel such as budget analysts, contract specialists, and information technology specialists.

UNITED STATES TRUSTEE RECRUITMENT

The USTP consists of 21 regions established by statute, each of which is headed by a United States Trustee. 28 U.S.C. § 581(a). United States Trustees are appointed by the Attorney General to five-year terms (subject to renewal). These are “at will” appointments.

Salary Information

Positions within the United States Trustee Program are covered under one of three government pay systems: the General Schedule, the Administratively Determined Pay Plan, or the Senior Executive Service. Each year, the President signs an Executive Order announcing the pay adjustments to General Schedule and Senior Executive Service pay systems.

General Schedule (GS)

For positions under the General Schedule, salary tables are available on the Office of Personnel Management website.

Administratively Determined (AD) Pay Plan

The AD Pay Plan is a component-specific compensation system established under authority of 28 U.S.C. § 587 and 5 U.S.C. § 301, and approved by the Attorney General, that covers United States Trustees and Assistant United States Trustees.

Senior Executive Service (SES)
