COVID-19 Information

Country-Specific Information:
- Iran has confirmed case of COVID 19 in its borders.
- Government offices, schools, and stores remain in open and operating.
- The U.S. Department of State continues to monitor developments related to COVID 19 in Iran closely.
Entry and Exit Requirements:
- Are U.S. citizens permitted to enter? Yes
- Is a negative COVID-19 test (PCR and/or serology) required for entry? Yes. All travelers over the age of 2 must provide a negative PCR test (in English) to the Ministry of Health upon arrival in Iran. The test must have been conducted within 96 hours before arrival. Foreign travelers who cannot provide the results of a PCR test will be turned away.
- Are health screening procedures in place at airports and other ports of entry? Yes, the Iranian Ministry of Health conducts screenings of all travelers upon arrival. The Ministry places foreign travelers who demonstrate symptoms of COVID 19 in quarantine for 14 days in one of their designated locations. All costs are born by the traveler.
- Travelers who obtained a negative PCR result in Iran before departing are not required to provide a new one to re-enter within a 2 week timeframe.
- Iran suspended the issuance of tourist visas on August 1, 2020.
Movement Restrictions:
- Is a curfew in place? No
- Are there restrictions on intercity or interstate travel? Yes. Diplomats are prohibited from traveling within Iran for official or touristic purposes until further notice. Private individuals face no such restrictions.
Quarantine Information:
- Are U.S. citizens required to quarantine? Yes. Travelers are subject to a 14 day quarantine if they demonstrate COVID 19 symptoms during a Ministry of Health mandated health screening upon their arrival.
COVID-19 Testing:
- Testing is possible in all medical laboratories. Airlines operating in Iran have authorized designated laboratories to board arriving aircraft to conduct tests. Costs are born by travelers and range from IRR 5’000’000 to IRR 7’000’000 (USD 16.00 to USD 21.00).
Transportation Options:
- Are commercial flights operating? Yes
- Is public transportation operating? Yes
- Masks are compulsory within airports, and on all public transportation and aircraft.
Fines for Non-Compliance:
- Not wearing a mask carries a fine of IRR 500’000 (USD 1.60).
- Breaking quarantine carries a fine of IRR 2’000’000 (USD 6.50).
