Cooperative Research Program (CoRP)NOAA-NESDIS Award Increase for CIMSSOn July 2, 2019, NOAA NESDIS approved a request by the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) to increase their funding limit by $3,000,000 to cover award activities through the project end date of June 30, 2020. CIMSS research increases understanding of remote sensing of the Earth and its application to weather forecasting and nowcasting, clouds and radiation, the global hydrological cycle, environmental trends, and climate. CIMSS scientists are engaged in a broad array of research activities ranging from using real-time Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) observations to derive atmospheric stability indices in support of severe weather forecasting, to designing the next generation satellite instruments. The Cooperative Research Program (CoRP) of NESDIS' Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) manages a coast-to-coast research coalition of the federal government and universities. CoRP's branches, Institutes and its Center work together on remote sensing of the environment in these focus areas:
