National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)

National Disability Employment Awareness Month runs nationwide from October 1 to October 31.

Congress designated each October as National Disability Employment Awareness (NDEAM) in an effort to educate the American public about issues related to disability and employment. The month of October provides a perfect opportunity for Federal personnel to recognize the AbilityOne® Program, employees and nonprofit agency staff for their outstanding work and support to Federal agencies. NDEAM activities serve as tools to educate your colleagues and other Federal agency personnel year-round about the AbilityOne Program benefits and capabilities that meet their procurement needs.

The AbilityOne Program is the largest single source of employment for people who are blind or have significant disabilities in the United States, providing employment opportunities to more than 50,000 people. More than 600 participating, community-based nonprofit agencies (NPAs) train and employ these individuals with disabilities nationwide. But there are hundreds of thousands of Americans who are blind or have other significant disabilities that are still waiting for their chance to work. That’s why building awareness of the Program during NDEAM and throughout the year is so crucial to its success.

Now is the time to make people aware of the AbilityOne Program and to turn that awareness into opportunity for thousands of Americans who are blind or have other significant disabilities. Federal customers can show their support for the AbilityOne Program in many ways.

Get Involved today

Help us build awareness about NDEAM and the AbilityOne Program so we can help build more fulfilling lives for people who are blind or have significant disabilities. For further assistance in planning an AbilityOne celebration activity, contact your AbilityOne contractor and/or other local AbilityOne-participating nonprofit agencies (NPAs).
