Program Information

Purpose

Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement programs, also known as McNair Scholars Programs, prepare university undergraduates (juniors and seniors) who are low-income, first generation, and/or members of groups underrepresented in graduate education.  The U.S. Department of Education currently funds approximately 150 of these programs nationally. In September 2017, the UNT McNair Scholars Program received a grant award from the U.S. Department of Education for another five years of funding. In addition, the University of North Texas Office of the Provost and VIce President for Academic Affairs and the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation contribute funds directly in support of the McNair Scholars.

UNT’s McNair Scholars Program provides students selected as McNair Scholars with research opportunities, faculty mentors, and a variety of services to successfully complete the baccalaureate degree and prepare for graduate school. The goal of all program is to increase the number of students from underrepresented segments of society to successfully complete a Ph.D. degree.
