Mean Green Track And Field Open Season At Texas A&M Team Invite

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The North Texas track and field team opened the 2014 indoor season with a top-ten national performance by Clinton Collins in the 400-meter, this Friday at the Texas A&M Team Invitational.
Collins' 400m in 47.17 was his fastest opening run of his career, winning the event for the Mean Green. On the women’s side Ashley Henry was the top finisher in fourth,with a time of 57.13.
“As a whole it’s always a good meet to start off the season,” said head coach Carl Sheffield. “The competition was broader than last year and was a good opportunity giving this young team a chance compete.”
Sophomore Kandace Rose started the season off strong with a 7" personal-record in the weight throw and Deja McKnight finished third in shot put with a distance of 12.68m.
Madison Northcutt and Sarah Korn closed out the top eight in the high jump. Mona Landry finished in the top three with a distance of 5.64m in the long jump.
In the 3000m Troy Taylor and James Coleman finished in second (8:19.30) and third (8:20.03), improving their personal-best along with Alejandro Valencia and Bryce McAndrew who finished in seventh and eighth.
Newcomer Shanuna Pali competed in her first indoor meet. In the 3000m she stayed with the pack and teammate Jo Adams, who took first in the event. Cody Campbell had a solid debut in the 5000m posting a personal-best of 15:13.
Up next for North Texas track and field is the JD Martin Indoor Invitational Jan. 25 in Norman, Oklahoma.
