Track & Field Solid Outdoor Season Continues At Baylor Invitational

WACO – The North Texas track and field teams came away with six titles and 10 top-three finishes on Saturday at the Baylor Invitational at Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium.

"It was a really good meet for us," head coach Carl Sheffield said. "I thought we competed well considering the weather. I was happy with the performance of the sprinters. Alford Tribble posted a collegiate best at near freezing temperatures. Our young jumpers continue to improve with runner-up finishes from Amber Walker and Breanna Eckels."

The Mean Green continued their impressing start to the outdoor season bringing home six titles in javelin, 2000m steeplechase, 1500m run and 100m dash.

Junior Javier Lopez-Ibarra earned his second first-place finish of the outdoor season throwing 59.39 meters in javelin. On his first attempt, Lopez-Ibarra fired his second-best mark of the season landing 194-10 feet. Sophomore Kristyn Archuleta came in third with a throw of 43.39 meters (142-04 feet) in javelin.

Junior Jourden Taylor finished second in high jump at 1.90 meters (6-2.75 feet). Freshman Amber Walker jumped a personal-best mark of 1.70 meters (5-7.00 feet) to place second in high jump.

In long jump, Breanna Eckels came in second place with a jump of 5.64 meters (18-6.00 feet). Senior Dominique Drayden was fifth in long jump at 6.52 meters (21-4.75 feet) and sophomore Howard Grant finished sixth at 6.46 meters (21-2.50 feet).

Junior Cassidy Adams won the 2000-meter steeplechase with a time of 7:21.43. On the men’s side Matthew Morgan came in first out of three competitors at 6:24.65.

In the 1500-meter run, junior Rea Iseli took home first place with a time of 4:39.77 and senior Christina Moralez was sixth at 4:47.55. Senior Zach Kirkland placed first in the 1500m with a time of 4:07.11 and sophomore Florian Lussy was third at 4:07.91.

Sophomore Jahyda Dixon finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.11. On the men’s side, senior Alford Tribble came away with the title in the 100m dash with a personal-best time of 10.67 and freshman Darien Porter was second at 10.68. Freshman Abdon Campbell (10.74) and junior James Cole (10.85) finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Junior Baylee Nelson was third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.81 and sophomore Tim Jones placed second in the 800m at 1:57.68.

In the 3000-meter run, freshman Shane Bracken finished second in the final event with a time of 8:48.05 and junior Alex Cleveland was fourth at 9:00.87.

"'I've been really impresed with the progress of our distance group," Sheffield said. "Rea Iseli, Tim Jones and Shane Bracken are stepping up the pace. They continue to bolster our hopes for improvement in Conference USA."
