Mean Green And Howard Finish Fifth At Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. (3/11/08) Led by Cole Howard the North Texas men’s golf team fired its best round of the Louisiana Classic in the final round to finish in fifth place from the Oakbourne Country Club. Howard ended the tournament tied for fifth place overall with a final round of 1-under par 71.

 

He was one of only six players to shoot even-par or better in the field of 78 competitors.  Howard had a three-round score of even-par 216.

 

The Mean Green’s final round of 290 tied for the third lowest round of the day in the field of 14 teams. North Texas had a tournament score of 886. The Mean Green beat all three Sun Belt school’s that were included in the field, including defending conference champion Louisiana-Lafayette.

 

Three players had final rounds of 1-over par 73 on the day led by Anthony Broussard who finished with a 225 for the tournament. Dustin Thompson also notched the same final round score of 1-over par and a three-round score of 225. The pair finished tied for 39th place.

 

Austin Welch was one shot back with a three-round score of 226 and Harris Graham posted a 232.

 

The Mean Green is back in action later this week with a battle at the Border Olympics on March 14-15.
